Description
Allstate is seeking an Early Career Trial Attorney to join our Texas Client Legal Services team in the McAllen area. This posting may be used to fill similar early career trial attorney openings supporting McAllen-based teams handling first-party property, CAT, bodily injury, and property damage matters.
In this role, you will help defend Allstate and/or insureds in a variety of litigation matters while developing courtroom and case-handling experience. You will manage cases from inception through resolution, participate in hearings, depositions, mediations, motion practice, and minor prove-ups, and may gain exposure to trial work. You will also partner with clients and legal colleagues to support litigation strategy and stay current on developments that may impact ongoing matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage insurance defense litigation from case inception through resolution, including case assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, negotiations, hearings, mediations, and trial support
Handle matters involving bodily injury, property damage, first-party property, and/or catastrophe claims depending on team assignment
Gather and organize documents, evidence, and legal research in preparation for hearings, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials
Conduct legal research and prepare summaries regarding relevant laws, regulations, and case precedent
Draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other litigation-related documents
Interview clients and witnesses, prepare summaries, and maintain accurate communication records
Attend court hearings, depositions, and other legal proceedings; may represent the Company or clients in routine matters
Monitor legal and regulatory developments and communicate potential impact to the legal team
Participate in training and mentorship opportunities designed to build litigation and courtroom skills
Education Requirements
- Juris Doctor required
Active membership in good standing with the Texas State Bar
Ability to obtain Southern District of Texas federal licensure as soon as practical, if applicable to assigned matters
Minimum Qualifications
- Well suited for attorneys early in their legal careers who are looking to build litigation and courtroom experience
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
Ability to draft clear, well-structured legal documents
Strong time management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines
Ability to organize case files, manage litigation documents, and support the discovery process
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including client communication and documentation
Understanding of legal ethics and standards of professional conduct
Foundational negotiation skills and sound judgment in client and case interactions
Must live within commuting distance of courthouses in McAllen and surrounding cities/counties

Requirements
Juris Doctor required
Active membership in good standing with the Texas State Bar
