We are a busy criminal defense firm trying real felony cases in Texas state and federal courts, and we hand our associates meaningful responsibility fast — under the direct mentorship of double board-certified criminal law and criminal appellate attorney, Jacob Blizzard with a track record that includes regular "not guilty" verdicts is serious cases, including murder and sexual assaults that most lawyers never see in a career. If you want to actually try cases, write the motions and writs that change outcomes, and learn from lawyers who have done it at the highest level, this is the rare place that offers all three.
This is not a sit-in-the-library job. You will be in court, with clients, and in trial.
The life as an associate attorney at Blizzard & Zimmerman, P.L.L.C. is a great one. We are fast paced law firm practicing in a broad field of law. Our primary practice areas are criminal defense, post-conviction writ work, family law, appeals, and civil litigation. Our lawyers touch almost every area of law for individuals and small business.
What you'll do
Manage your own assigned caseload under close mentorship from senior attorneys
Meet with clients and potential clients
Review discovery, identify the issues that matter, and brief them for senior counsel
Research and write pretrial motions and post-conviction writs
Investigate, prepare, and try cases to juries and judges in state and federal court
Who we're looking for
JD with strong academic credentials
Licensed to practice in Texas or awaiting bar results / sitting for the bar in 2026
Trial-oriented: mock trial, moot court, trial advocacy, or evidence coursework is a genuine plus — highlight it in your application
Sharp legal research, writing, and oral advocacy
Disciplined and organized, able to own a file independently while working as part of a team
