- Contract Litigation Attorney
Description
Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking experienced litigation attorneys for engagement through the firm’s contract attorney and alternative staffing program, DWTSurge. These alternative-track attorney positions will support the Firm’s litigation practice group and large institutional clients, including leading technology companies, on a range of commercial litigation matters.
Depending on the assignment, attorneys may work directly with or may be embedded with a client’s in-house legal team on secondment or may join a team of DWT attorneys to support highvolume litigation programs and strategic matters as part of a client service team within the firm. Work may include managing complex litigation, responding to and negotiating thirdparty subpoenas, supporting arbitration and dispute resolution matters, drafting pleadings and motions, and assisting with discovery and case management.
Some roles may require on-site work with clients in the Los Angeles or Bay Area, while others offer the flexibility of remote work. Attorneys working remotely should be able to primarily support West Coast business hours. Candidates must hold active bar admission in California. Certain assignments may also require residency in the Los Angeles and/or Bay Area and the ability to work on-site at client offices on a full-time or hybrid remote and on-site basis.
Attorneys should be highly organized with strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple matters with competing deadlines. Attorneys should be able to work independently and exercise good judgement while also collaborating with lawyers, clients, and business professionals to meet litigation objectives.
These contract positions may offer full-time or part-time hours depending on the engagement. For both full-time and part-time roles, actual hours of work may fluctuate week to week depending on the availability of appropriate work and the needs of the client. Most engagements begin with an initial sixmonth contract term, with the possibility of extension or renewal for successful candidates, although extensions are not guaranteed. We are looking for attorneys interested in establishing an alternative-track working relationship with the firm.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years of litigation experience in a mid-sized or large law firm and/or in-house with large institutional or technology clients.
- Residency and active bar admission in California.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: consumer class actions, arbitration, small claims matters, dispute resolution, demand letters, prelitigation matters, or responding to and negotiating thirdparty subpoenas.
- Experience managing multiple litigation matters simultaneously, including drafting pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other litigation-related documents.
- Strong negotiation, case management, and client relationship skills.
- Ability to represent client interests when communicating with opposing counsel, arbitrators, and other stakeholders.
- A strong interest in working with global technology clients and large institutional organizations.
- Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and methods of client data management and communication as needed.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Ability to understand and follow work directions, make discretionary decisions, manage multiple priorities and respond to urgent requests with minimal supervision.
- Availability to work remotely or on-site depending on assignment requirements, and flexibility to support West Coast business hours.
- Excellent proactive communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain effective working relationships and communicate verbally and in writing with clients, firm members, and other business contacts.
- Exceptional client service skills, as well as the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm, composed manner.
- Excellent writing skills, strong attention to detail and strong time and task management skills, and ability to produce high quality work product with minimal supervision and direction.
