Managing position responsible for administration of the Justice Court, internships and externships. Candidate will work at the direction of the County Attorney, and in conjunction with the Chief of Criminal Litigation and Chief of Criminal Operations to supervise and train attorneys in the Criminal Division, with a focus on the Justice Court Division on a wide variety of routine to difficult and complex criminal prosecutions including felony, misdemeanor and other criminal violations in the County’s court system. May act as a legislative liaison during session and assist with law enforcement legal updates and training. Does related duties as required.

CHALLENGES OF THE POSITION:
- Must have the flexibility to work more than 40 hours per week, if required;
- Work with less experienced attorneys in trial techniques and strategies;
- Coordinate with Office Administrator / Staff Supervisors regarding administrative matters, support staff, and attorney issues;
- Help coordinate and conduct law enforcement training;
- Responsible for coordination and supervision of law student internship programs and recruitment;
- Coordinate attorney caseloads for vacation and sick leave;
- The nature of the work performed requires establishment of close cooperative working relationships with law enforcement, the judiciary, and other members of the criminal justice community;
- The nature of the work is such that it may be performed under considerable stress;
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced legal environment with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines on a daily basis.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED:
- Juris Doctorate;
- Must be a member of the Montana State Bar
- Minimum of five (5) years of criminal prosecution and trial experience as a Deputy County Attorney or five (5) years’ experience practicing law including civil litigation, criminal litigation and/or local government law; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training totaling seven (7) years;
- Demonstrated ability to litigate and try cases and effectively handle a caseload as well as train less experienced prosecutors in trial work.
- ADDITIONAL REQUIRMENTS:
- Valid Montana Driver’s License
