ABOUT THE ROLE
Learning and Development
- Liaison with Global Team. Meets regularly with the Associate Director, Attorney Learning Design, the Senior Attorney Learning Design Manager, and other members of the global L&D team based in the U.S., as appropriate, to ensure the Managers understanding of curricula and programs intended to be firmwide offerings, as well as of other U.S. training initiatives and programs. Strategizes with team regarding participation of Regional Legal Professionals in those initiatives and programs, or method for delivering same or similar initiatives and programs in Regional offices. Recommends format (live with U.S.-based presenter, video watch parties with local discussion sessions, etc.) to best deliver desired content of firmwide programs and initiatives to Legal Professionals in the Regions and, where needed, supports program delivery in local offices in Regions. Develops understanding of various Legal Professional groups in Regions, including those outside of traditional class-year based associate roles, and brings judgment to determine proper invitee list for programs.
- Curricular Assessment and Customization. With a focus on continuous improvement and evolving lawyering needs, works closely with members of the firms L&D group, L&D Liaisons, Regional practice group leaders, local partners, and Marketing Department to ensure that the curricula for (a) level-based cohorts (including summer associates/interns, trainees, first year and newly-qualified lawyers, mid-level associates, senior associates and newly-elevated partners), (b) practice skills and practice knowledge, (c) professional skills, (d) business development, and (e) other learning areas are appropriate to meet the learning and development needs of Legal Professionals in the Regions.
- Program Content Assessment and Customization With a focus on continuous improvement and evolving lawyering needs, works closely with members of the firms L&D group, L&D Liaisons, Regional practice group leaders, local partners, and Marketing Department to ensure that the content of programs comprising level-based, practice skills/practice knowledge, professional skills, business development, and other curricula is appropriate based on the nature of the practices, legal structures, and learning and development needs of Legal Professionals in the Regions. Drives process to ensure delivery of programs in the Regions.
- Tactical Guidance and Regional/Local Programs. Develops deep understanding of local and Regional practices, legal structures, and learning and development needs of Legal Professionals in the Regions. Assesses feedback from partners and associates about learning gaps and, in consultation with members of the firms L&D group, L&D Liaisons, Regional practice group leaders, local partners, and Marketing Department, supports development of necessary Regional or local offerings.
- Faculty Recruitment and Feedback. Recruits Regional faculty for internal trainings. Coordinates with L&D group to ensure that instructional design resources, feedback from learners on strengths and weaknesses of trainings, and resources to improve trainings are provided to faculty. Identifies and collaborates with external consultants to curate programming that is tailored specifically to Regional offices. Vets Regional coaches and consultants, maintains Regional database and shares information with L&D group.
- Offsite Training and Retreats. Supports L&D group with large in-person level-based events as needed, providing guidance regarding maximizing experience of, and value obtained by, Legal Professionals from Regional offices. Develops and executes curricula for in-person Regional events, as requested.
- Supports various forms of learner assessment in the Regions, including immediately post-training and at appropriate future intervals. Reviews feedback and provides guidance to L&D team on ways to improve learning offerings, as applicable.
- CLE/CPD Schemes. Develops understanding of requirements for continuing legal education/competence in the Regions jurisdictions. Provides support as needed to local office contacts and external accreditation partners for approving courses for credit, including by communicating to other members of the L&D team recommended adjustments/enhancements to planned programs to facilitate accreditation.
- Communications/Engagement. Supports L&D team efforts in communications regarding curricula, programs, and initiatives, including tailoring communications as needed to resonate with Regional Legal Professionals or creating specific communications for Regions. Supports engagement aspects of learning and development in the Regions. Develops and implements Regional communications strategy to improve attorney awareness of programs offered and overall L&D efforts. Cultivates partner champions for training in order to develop a culture of training in the Regions.
Inclusion and Engagement Initiatives
- Liaison with Global Teams. Meets regularly with the members of the global We@MoFo team, based in the U.S., to ensure the Managers understanding of programs and initiatives intended to be firmwide offerings, as well as of other U.S. inclusion and engagement initiatives and programs. Strategizes with teams regarding participation of Regional Legal Professionals in those initiatives and programs, or method for delivering same or similar initiatives and programs, if appropriate, in Regional offices. Brings local/Regional expertise regarding issues and needs to conversations with firmwide teams.
- Strategic Partner with Community Advisory Board. Meets regularly with Regional Community Advisory Board (CAB) members and acts as strategic partner in assessing Regional needs, proposing and executing on initiatives and programs in the Regions.
- Regional Affinity Networks and Groups. Meets regularly with Affinity Network Leads (partners) and acts as a strategic partner in executing on Networks goals in the Regions. Supports local Affinity Groups in executing on desired initiatives and programs, including coordinating and facilitating events, tracking budgets, preparing presentations to stakeholders (e.g., the CAB), etc.
- Speaker Recruitment and Feedback. Recruits Regional speakers and panelists for internal programs. Sources, vets, and communicates with external consultants to curate programming tailored specifically to Regional offices. Maintains Regional consultant database and shares information with We@MoFo team.
- Data Requests and Surveys. Manages collection of Regional data for, and advises on Regional aspects of, internal and external reports, surveys, or award submissions. Provides Regional inclusion and engagement content to Marketing/BD team for social media, portal/website, marketing materials and other internal and external collateral.
Professional Development
- Keeps current on attorney development, training, and inclusion-related issues within the firm and in the larger legal community in the Regions; develops relationships with professionals in similar positions throughout the Regions and shares resources and best practices; attends meetings and conference as appropriate relating to these issues and initiatives in the legal profession within the Regions.
- Ensures expertise in technology relevant to the position; proactively uses most current technology to further teamwork, client service, and efficiency.
Client Service, Confidentiality, and Safety
- Consistently promotes and models the Firms Client Service Principles in leadership, teamwork, work product, and personal interaction.
- Ensures compliance with the Firms Information Handling Policy, including safeguarding confidential and personal information, and reporting any suspected breach appropriately and immediately.
- Adheres to the Firms General Safety Practices and any unique safety practices for department and building.
General Support
- Develops relationships with Legal Professionals and staff in all offices of the Region so that both Asia and Europe offices are similarly supported, and ensuring that services are effectively delivered to offices beyond the Managers home office.
- Works effectively with global L&D, We@MoFo, and other firm departments (in the U.S. and throughout the Region) to ensure coordination and alignment of initiatives and programs where appropriate, and to communicate Region-specific needs and nuances to effectively meet the needs of Legal Professionals throughout the Region.
ABOUT YOU
Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree required. Law degree or equivalent qualification, with practice experience at a major law firm, preferred.
- A minimum of four years of experience in law firm learning and development, professional development, or talent management required.
- Experience with inclusion and engagement work desirable.
Teamwork and Applied Skills
- Excellent project management skills ability to lead complex, detailed projects and programs, and to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to take an assignment from inception to completion with minimal supervision or by following broad guidelines.
